Australian History: Post Federation (1901-2000)
The Post Federation period was marked by the two world wars. While science advanced the way we lived through the industrialisation of manufacturing, so too was it seen in its devasting form through never before seen weapons used in the wars. The warring periods were interspersed with the Great Depression and further armed conflicts that Australia were involved in, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. While the wars eventuated, Australia was becoming more involved with their outdoor lifestyles and the passion for sports was great.
The Great Depression -The Great Depression was an economic catastrophe that caused a decline in international trade, personal income, tax revenue, prices and profits. Basically there was no money circulating within the population and therefore no one could buy anything, which meant no businesses made money and therefore no jobs were available in a catastrophic cycle.
World War 2 -.
Korean War - On June 25th 1950, the army of North Korea marched across the 38th Parallel into South Korea. By the evening of June 26th, North Korean tanks were on the outskirts of Seoul, the South Korean capital, and the next day they moved unopposed into the city.
Snowy Mountains Scheme - The Snowy Mountains Hydro-electric Scheme first began as a means of obtaining extra irrigation, however later expanded to integrate a hydro-electric power supply. The project is the single greatest engineering project Australia has ever known and possibly will ever know
Vietnam War. Australian supported South Vietnam in the early 1960s to keep in line with the policies of other nations, particularly the United States in the belief that the spread of Communism had to be stopped.
Sporting Achievements - During the century of world wars and the Great Depression, Australia achieved great heights in sporting achievements. These are the main highlights of significant Australian performances.
